Controlling Design Conditions: My New Perspective is a book that documents what I have learned about design through research and the production of a series of chance based design experiments. Moreover, the following collected compositions were all derived from research pertaining to the relationship between success and failure in design.I would pose questions from my research in the book Failure edited by Lise Le Feuvre, and these questions would influence my design making.

Through the line of questioning that my research had triggered, I came to the conclusion that designing the variables around the activity of producing the final output was the best place to start. Moreover, by leaving the outcome to a tool of chance such as the roll of a die, I believed that the strength of the design outcome would be based purely on the activity of designing.
